Emsworth is a "Home
Town"......Official!
A survey of cities towns
and villages conducted during 2004 by the
New Economics Foundation
found some surprising
results. The majority of our towns and cities are totally
indistinguishable from one another and only a few were instantly
recognisable and distinctive. Emsworth [yes Emsworth came in the top
ten of the "home towns" meaning that we retain character and
distinctiveness. A total of 102 towns took part and our final
placing was 6th!
If you travel to Emsworth
from the direction of the South Downs you will see many sheep and
lambs at this time of the year in the downland and fields of West
Sussex and Hampshire. However you will not see Dolly the Sheep or
any of her brothers or sisters!
The same will apply when to
arrive in Emsworth, a recognisable and distinctive small town with
individual and privately owned shops and services set on the edge of
Chichester Harbour famous for sailing, fishing and bird watching.
Emsworth works hard to retain the character of this special place
and now a survey published by the New Economic Foundation confirms
Emsworth's status as a "home town"-we actually came 6th in this
national survey of 102 towns in the UK. In fact Emsworth is the only
accredited "home town" in the whole of Hampshire and West Sussex!
What better reason can
there be to visit this special place, where you will find plenty to
do and see. Remember also, Emsworth is the home of the
Emsworth Food Festival
so you can be sure
of good food and drink to round off an enjoyable visit.
